The Shed
Members Nigel and Elizabeth planned the October Run with a slight twist and Barbara tells us about it.
We had clues to solve, enroute from Kelbrook via Blacko and Barnoldswick, to our coffee stop on a large layby near Paythorne. Nigel and Elizabeth were already waiting to greet us – and to park us safely to miss the potholes and puddles! From there we journeyed via Wigglesworth to Rathmell and on to Lawkland before arriving in Austwick for a Loo stop, again with some interesting tantalising clues to solve. Our next stop was near Wharfe where we were treated to a guided walk before setting up chairs for our picnic lunch by ‘The Shed,’ Nigel and Elizabeth’s wonderful scenic bolt hole! Elizabeth kindly treated us all to delicious homemade cakes.
Continuing along this road we arrived in Knight Stainforth before negotiating the pretty narrow bridge over the Ribble, again with more clues. Another Loo stop in Stainforth then the journey over to Malham Tarn, where we donned warm jackets for the short walk from the carpark with ‘some’ patronising the nearby ice-cream van. The scenic ride then took us through Malham to Hellifield along narrow country lanes where clues weren’t always easy to solve, especially where the sign for one had been removed … Once parked up at The Black Horse we were given a short quiz to keep our brains in gear, although I admit that I had to merely guess some of the answers. Elizabeth then took charge of obtaining our scores before announcing a Run winner (giving the prize to the couple coming third) and a winner of the pub quiz. She then deftly distributed a piece of homemade cake to everyone before we all left for home. A great time was had by all. Thankyou.
