Cliffe Castle
The weather was not looking too promising when nine cars left The Old Stone Trough.
We started on the narrow winding back lanes between Kelbrook and Foulridge . These are Frank’s worst nightmare however things soon improved when we got on the main roads and headed over the moors to Hebden Bridge and then a left turn and quite a few hairpin bends took us high on the tops with fabulous views over the valley from what our leader called cliff edge.
Next we carried on through various villages and more hairpins till we got on to the main Keighley road and on to our destination “Cliffe Castle”.
This proved a great venue for a day out with an excellent restaurant, lovely gardens, aviary, and a fantastic museum. At the end of the day on which the weather had been on our side we headed back past Clootie Well, Lunds Tower [some members climbed it ] The Pinnacle on to Cowling and home.
Many thanks to Nigel and especially Elizabeth for the super cakes she had baked for our coffee stop at Gorple Lower Reservoir
