The Buck Paythorne
In view of the usually inclement weather in January we did not hold our usual Sunday Run and — when 15 members of the Burnley and Pendle MGOC decamped to the Buck Inn at Paythorne— the weather did not disappoint with the torrential rain fully justifying our decision. Fortunately, Roger and Olive had organised lunch for us at “The Buck”, on the second Sunday in January, as an indoor alternative.
We met up a little early which gave everyone plenty of time to exchange New Year’s greetings and tales of Christmas derring-do after which we settled down at our tables grouped cozily in front of a very efficient stove. Although very successful, our Christmas Dinner had been somewhat depleted by illness but on this occasion members had made a sufficient recovery from their various ailments and injuries to avail themselves of the comprehensive menu available at this excellent eatery. As yet unburdened here by the gratuitous — and gruesome — details of the very many calories we were probably about to consume, we chose widely from the available dishes but those who were unfortunate enough to miss the Christmas Dinner nevertheless had an even tastier treat in store when they discovered that the Messrs N & J Taylor Truffle Co. had very kindly reopened — for this occasion only — their order book and prepared further samples of their delightful wares for those left bereft on the first occasion. Truly scrumptious! A wonderful and sociable beginning to the New Year.
