Sunday Run to Kettlewell

Guy Fawkes’ Day brought the Burnley and Pendle MGOC’s touring season a close with a – fortunately metaphorical – bang when Richard and Angela took us on the final run of 2023 through the Yorkshire Dales.  As befitted the day, whereas the week before the rain poured and, indeed, during the week that followed, on Sunday the Sun shone, with flawless blue skies and it was even not too cold … for November.  Taking to the lanes out of Barnoldswick, we worked our way around and through Hellifield then turned towards Malham, the North Yorkshire Dales and our coffee stop at Town End Farm in its beautifully rural setting.  Strengthened with coffee and – dare I say it – cakes, we passed through Malham, skirting Malham Tarn and, thereafter, approximately following the Pennine Way for a while.  We did this until leaving alongside Cowside Beck, with Parson’s Pulpit on our right and Fountains Fell on the left.  We were greeted by spectacular views and a wonderful quiet, as we rested for a few minutes, and rather a lot of sheep as we drove on to Kettlewell for an excellent lunch at the very traditional Racehorse Hotel.  Thanking Richard and Angela, we ended a beautiful sunny day in beautiful countryside and hills — and in an open MG!  What more could you want?  Next month:  Christmas dinner at the Old Stone Trough.
