“Humbug lives up to his name!”
Barbara and Neil have been pondering the future and tell us about it. Christmas and New Year have passed and, in normal circumstances, we look back and re-live memories of the year, the drives and the venues we visited. However, this year has been dominated by the pandemic, causing pain and anxiety to many and curtailing activities throughout the country.
Nonetheless, members have recently been keeping themselves entertained: monitoring the monthly ‘Anglia Car Auctions’ on You Tube and trying to complete the Lancashire Life Quiz celebrating Lancashire Day, which was on the 27th November. I know that ‘Bangers on Cash’ – on ‘Yesterday’ – has been popular with some members and others have been out and about – in limited circumstances – enjoying the fine weather whenever possible.
What was at the top of your Wish List? We – like, I’m sure, all MG Club members – want a return to Club Activities in 2021 and a return to monthly Runs – however socially distanced they might be. We have missed meeting with our MG friends, exchanging news, ideas, and trips to interesting places.
I think top of our Agenda will be visits to those places who have struggled during the pandemic with a lack of income, such as The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, one of our favourite days out, despite the Run over there not being one of the best. Cafes and pubs will also need our custom and we will be only too glad to patronise them. Once allowed – and safe – we will be keen to plan trips away involving a few overnight stays.
We also hope that the New Year will see the return of our monthly runs and meetings. So, from everyone at Burnley & Pendle MGOC, we wish you all the best for the coming year.
