30th Anniversary Pendle Run
Fingers were crossed, and our prayer mats out, in the hope that – after days of rain – the sun would make an appearance. Indeed it did! So, on a lovely sunny morning, we welcomed over 70 participants to the Old Stone Trough at Kelbrook for our Run.
A parade of classic cars of all marques, the eldest being a 1930’s Aston Martin Ultra and the youngest being an electric MG4 – pressed into service when the MG RV8 refused to start, it happens to us all – headed for the Lancashire countryside and onto the Yorkshire dales. Narrow country lanes, then Fells and splendid views overlooking the meandering River Wharfe, with the Three peaks as a backdrop, showed off the area in all its glory. Having left Pendle Hill behind us, the cars passed through Malham, Arncliffe, Kilnsey and Grassington before approaching the Bolton Abbey Estate. No time here for a cream tea with the Duke and Duchess, as we must return to the Old Stone Trough for a sausage or bacon sandwich, share stories of our afternoon, draw the raffle and have a presentation. A busy day coming to a friendly conclusion.
Once again the generosity of our friends meant we were able to donate £500 to the Pendleside Hospice. It was great to meet up with former Club members who dropped in to say ‘Hello’ but sad that our Secretary missed the event due to a minor accident accessing his wine cellar.
Geof, next time take more water with it! [No comment! It was on the way down … Sec] Only kidding, we wish you a speedy recovery.
